ONGC Tragedy, 2021 (Infographic)

An infographic designed for Aarefa Johari’s investigation into the ONGC tragedy and the events that caused the death of almost 80 men during Cyclone Tauktae. This infographic was a conceptual one, revealing the series of decisions (by corporations) taking place ‘beneath the surface of the sea’ that went overlooked, leading to the loss of so many lives.

The concept for this graphic was driven solely by what the story was trying to convey, which is the dark web of connections and decisions that lead to the tragedy.  I received a rough sketch from the Scroll team of how the information was distributed, read the story thoroughly and developed 3 rough concepts. Some of the details (arrows, circles, dimensions) were also following Scroll's visual language guidelines.
